Ayurveda is a comprehensive, system for health maintenance and healing whose main goal is to restore and maintain balance. Nutrition plays an important role in achieving this.

Ayurveda is very clear about the influence and effect our food has on us. Agni, the digestive fire, is at least as important as the interplay of the five elements which make up our bodies and which form our basic constitution.

Through our five senses – taste, smell, sight, hearing, feeling – we collect information about the qualities of a particular food. In our workshops you will learn to distinguish different qualities of taste. Ultimately, it is the combination of the elements, the taste and the quality of a particular food which determines its individual effect on each person. This makes it possible to determine a suitable and healing diet for every constitutional type and for every illness.

Fresh, easy to digest and prepared with love. Because “the way to a man’s heart is through the stomach”. And, almost incidentally, you can lose a few, unwanted pounds in the process.

At the heart of ayurvedic philosophy are the teachings about the five elements: Ether (Space), Air, Fire, Water and Earth.

The five elements are the building blocks of the whole of creation. They are not just the basis of Nature, the plants and animals, but equally of humans.


According to Ayurveda, our everyday food is medicine, both for our well-being and our health. When choosing our food, we need to take our individual constitution (Dosha) into account if we are to get the greatest benefit from our food. If we do this we can strengthen our life energy, Prana.

Prana manifests in our bodies as a combination of the five elements, Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth, from which come the three doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These three doshas are combined in different proportions in each of us and thus inform our individuality. When these elements are in a harmonious balance within us we experience good health and a sense of well-being.

Just as these elements inform our nature and our individuality, so, too, do they inform the food we eat, giving it the qualities of Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
